No two paths are the same, which is especially true for the path chosen by Greysen Hendricks. The author of the upcoming horror novel Ghoul and San Diego native grew up getting lost in great works of fiction. He hadn’t discovered his love for writing until he began reporting for a short-lived website where he would review movies and video games. Now he spins words, crafting them into worlds of power and darkness in the evening after selling plumbing supplies and playing with his dog during the day. Look for Ghoul in bookstores soon.

Hex

by Thomas Olde Heuvelt

cover of the 2016 US release of Hex

Taking place in modern-day Virginia the story of Hex, written by Thomas Olde Heuvelt, follows the day-to-day lives of the inhabitants of Black Springs. Everything is normal about black springs except for Katherine Van Wyler, a 17th century witch who has cursed the town and its inhabitants.

As far as horror stories go involving witches Hex doesn’t break the mold, but enhances it with simple yet horrific effect. Lulling the reader into a sense of dull ease around the blind and mostly mute witch just like those who dwell in Black spring. This book is a relative slow burn from start but really catches fire with the end and a twist that will leave you wanting more. Originally a tale of the power of good versus the evil of dark magic takes a left hand turn into a dark story of a family struggling to understand and survive the onslaught of terror.

Overall this book was hard to put down and really set a high bar for Witch novels to come. I give it an 8/10 and highly recommend you look into it.

As always I recommend buying from a book store over amazon so the link to the B&N page is below.
